What features are available through the Apple Watch?

Several features are available through the Alarm.com app for Apple Watch.

Important: You must have watchOS version 5.0+ and be logged into the Alarm.com app on your mobile device in order to use the app on your Apple Watch. 

The Alarm.com app for Apple Watch includes features such as:

  • Arm or Disarm the system
  • Send Scene commands
  • Control locks
  • Control garage doors
  • Control thermostats
  • Control lights
  • Glance view provides a quick overview of the system's status, and Actionable Notifications allow the user to respond to certain notifications directly from the Apple Watch.
     
    Important: The device associated with the Apple Watch (i.e., iPhone or iPad) must be locked for notifications to display on the Apple Watch.
     
  • View live video from '20 and '21 series Alarm.com cameras and the 2GIG HD100.

Note: The ability to send commands from the app on an Apple Watch while the corresponding phone is powered down varies based on the watch's ability to maintain a cellular connection.

Do Actionable Notifications require the Alarm.com app to be open?icn-chevron-down.svg

No. The Apple Watch allows commands to be sent using Actionable Notifications. However, the user must be logged in to the Alarm.com app to successfully complete any action performed using the notification.

What devices are required for the Alarm.com app to work on the Apple Watch?icn-chevron-down.svg

An iPhone 5 or newer is required.

How do I install the Alarm.com app on the Apple Watch?icn-chevron-down.svg
  1. Open the Watch app on the iPhone.
  2. Tap Search at the bottom.
  3. Using the search bar field, enter Alarm.com.
  4. Tap Get.
How does the Apple Watch communicate with the iPhone?icn-chevron-down.svg

The Apple Watch communicates with the iPhone using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

If the iPhone is near enough, it will first try to use Bluetooth to conserve power. If Bluetooth is not available, it will try to use Wi-Fi. 

Important: The Apple Watch requires a 2.4GHz network to communicate with an iPhone when using Wi-Fi. It will not communicate using a 5GHz network.

The Apple Watch communicates with the phone whenever a button is touched on the Apple Watch app. The phone sends the command to the system. 

Note: The activity history only shows the login name of the user that sent the command from an Apple Watch.

How do I set up the Apple Watch to receive Alarm.com notifications?icn-chevron-down.svg

This update will be made within the Watch App that is native to a user's iPhone.

  1. Access the Watch app on the iPhone.
  2. Tap Notifications.


     
  3. In Mirror iPhone Alerts from:, tap the Alarm.com toggle switch to enable notifications for the Apple Watch.
